Esri UK and GDST supporting GIS in Schools

Raphael Heath, was a winner of the Pearson Teaching Award in 2016 for outstanding use of digital technology.

He was presented with the Royal Geographical Society Ordnance Survey Award for Excellence in Secondary Education in 2015. His Geography department was awarded Centre of Excellence status by the Geographical Association in 2016.

He organised the 2014, 2015 and 2016 Map Off events in which over 20,000 students have participated.

He was awarded a Silver Publishers Award from the Geographical Association in 2016 for the Ashcloud Apocalypse risk mapping activity. 

He won the Esri UK Best Community Project Award for the 2014 GIS Day World Record Event and was shortlisted for the Esri Customer Success Awards in 2016.

He was awarded a Goldsmiths Company professional development grant to develop his GIS expertise and events in April 2016. 

He has produced a series of resources for the RGS innovative teaching grant on developing an A level investigation into the geography of crime using GIS. 

He has contributed resources to the Geographical Assocation GIS support resources webpage. 

His new role as Digital Technology Education Consultant involves promoting innovation in the use of technology across the GDST group of 26 schools. 

He is a GDST Lead Subject Champion promoting collaboration in Geography across a network of 26 schools around the UK.

He is one of Esri UK's Centre of Excellence in GIS Education.

He is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and a Chartered Geographer.

He has presented at conferences, published articles and run courses in various aspects of Geography teaching and uses of GIS.
